Révéler Cabaret: SENEGAL SOUL + SWORD-SWALLOWER + BURLESQUE

Révéler presents a magical, intoxicating cabaret show packed with exceptional performers and wild surprises.

This cabaret variety show features the music of Diali Cissokho and members of his band Kaira Ba ("The Great Peace"), who explore the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal while featuring the enthralling sounds of the 22-stringed bridge-harp kora. The show is packed with magical moments, hilarious games, torchy songs, and a cast of sideshow performers that includes a sword-swallower.

Emcee Carmel Clavin conjures a spell of spectacle and mirth, while weaving songs of love, loss, and gothic soul into the proceedings. She will make you laugh a lot and cry a little at the same damn time and for all the right reasons.

In the music spotlight: Diali Cissokho and his band Kaira Ba ("The Great Peace") explore the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal, featuring the enthralling sounds of the 22-stringed bridge-harp kora. Cissokho comes from a long line of prominent hereditary griots – people who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s genealogies and important ceremonial affairs through song. The band formed in North Carolina in January of 2011, shortly after Cissokho’s immigration to the US. Kaira Ba has produced three full length albums, toured extensively in the US, and traveled twice as a band to Senegal. In 2014, Kaira Ba was nominated for the prestigious continent-wide All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) in the category “Best African Group” for their album The Great Peace. In 2018, the band released its most ambitious album to date, Routes, which was recorded alongside a broad cast of guests in both North Carolina and Senegal. The album was met with critical acclaim upon its releases, being favorably reviewed by Afropop Worldwide, The Financial Times, OkayAfrica, the famed rock critic Robert Christgau for Noisey/Vice, and Songlines who wrote, “ This album is up there with the groundbreaking recordings of Thione Seck, Baaba Maal and Youssou N’Dour.” Kaira Ba has performed and taught at Universities, appeared in front of large festival audiences and shared stages with some of Africa’s most prominent international artists, including Angélique Kidjo, Vieux Farka Touré, and the late Khaira Arby.

The side show includes the mesmerizing sword-swallower, fire-eater, and human blockhead, Opal Lechmanski. A graduate of Coney Island Sideshow School, Opal is an aerialist, a cabaret performer, and a worldwide cultivator of sideshow surrealism. Opal's show had a sold-out run at the Asheville Fringe Festival in 2019.

Also performing: The alchemist of burlesque, Jungle Julia is a Jersey kid that grew up in the expressive world of theater. Between her love of films and expansive theater background, Jungle Julia hopes to bring the audience an element of entertainment we see on the screen….and why not make it sexy while she’s at it?

Complimentary champagne and elegant snacks available, as well as a cash bar with groovy cocktails and a kitchen sending lovin’ from the oven.

With only 85 seats, shows at Révéler are intimate and immersive. A romantic venue with exquisite sound and dreamy vibes, Révéler offers a unique selection of cocktails, wines, beers, bubbles, and non-alcoholic beverages. Our kitchen delivers small plates crafted with care.
