Geoffrey Dean's powerhouse trio explores a variety of hard bop, modern, and traditional jazz repertoire. Grounded in tradition but playing with modern sensibilities, the entire spectrum of the history of jazz will be covered in this exciting showcase of modern and classic jazz repertoire. Saxophonist Charles Owens expands the sonic range of the group with his poetic and lyrical approach.

Dr. Geoffrey Dean is a jazz pianist, composer, author and educator currently performing in the Washington DC area. His music spans the entire genre of jazz – from blues and hard bop influences to classical music, R&B and modern jazz. Geoffrey Dean currently resides in the central Virginia/DC region and has recently authored an educational book on how to play modern jazz piano titled “Kenny Kirkland’s Harmonic and Rhythmic Language: A Model For The Modern Jazz Pianist”. He has recorded and performed with notable jazz musicians across the globe including Terrell Stafford, Greg Tardy, Cyrus Chestnut, and many others.

Charles Owens is an internationally acclaimed master tenor saxophonist, composer, band leader, recording artist, and educator and has been performing, composing, and teaching for over 35 years. After attending the New School and working as a musician in New York City from 1992 to 2004, he is currently living in Richmond, VA. Charles is an integral part of the vibrant music scene there and in Charlottesville, VA. He also travels back to New York several times a year to perform at venues such as Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls, The Django, and others. with his trio. He has made 12 albums as a leader and appeared and continues to appear on a plethora of recordings as a hired soloist. He's performed with such jazz luminaries as Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Omer Avital, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brian Blade, Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings, Ari Hoenig, Alexander Claffy, Jeff Watts, and Joel Frahm among many others.

Dr. Eric Binder is a drummer, composer, author, and educator who currently lives in the lower Hudson Valley, New York. He is recognized for his unique sound and approach that is deeply rooted in the history and tradition of the swinging music of the 1940s-1960s. Binder studied under the mentorship of Joel Spencer, as well as studied with greats like Kendrick Scott, Marcus Gilmore, Ron Bridgewater, Larry Gray, John Swana, and others. Binder proudly endorses Craviotto Drums, Canopus Hardware, Mongiello Cymbals, and Vitalizer Pedals.

Bassist Dominic Duval performs as bandleader, solo artist, and is quickly gaining recognition as a sideman on the modern jazz scene. Additionally, he is an active member of the avant-garde music community in New York, expanding upon the legacy of his father Dominic Duval Sr. From 2007 to 2011, Dominic attended the prestigious Eastman School of Music where he double majored in Classical Performance and Jazz and Contemporary Media. During his time there, he also served as the Principal Bassist of the Eastman Philharmonia Orchestra. In addition to a lifelong mentorship with his father, Dominic has studied under the tutelage of many greats of the instrument including: Homer Mensch, James VanDemark, Jeff Campbell, Orlando LeFleming, Larry Grenadier, and famed double bass pedagogue, Francois Rabbath. Over the years, Dominic has had the privilege of playing with many great musicians including: Colin Stranahan, Glenn Zaleski, Victor Lewis, Gilad Hekselman, Dave Kikoski, Francisco Mela, Vic Juris, Luis Perdomo, Rudy Royston, Andrew Cyrille, Marc Copland, Lee Konitz, Fred Hersch, and NEA Jazz Master Dick Hyman.
